Finally Friday

I recently ordered a beautiful turquoise and gingham Nicole Katherine Dress. It is from her Spring 2011 collection, so it was on sale. The dress is made of an ultra soft turquoise bengaline with a rayon/nylon/lycra content, trimmed with gingham cotton, comes with a gingham covered belt, and the bodice includes a peplum.

My friends and I decided to head out Friday night for a little live music and dancing. I decided I would wear my new dress. I have to say, after my hair was properly coiffed I did love the dress more.

I think that the dress moves wonderfully on the dance floor. What do you think?

My friend Michael singing La Bamba with the band (The Atomic Drifters). They had a special guest saxaphone player from Brazil. He was fantastic.

Two of my best girlfriends.

What did you do Friday night?

Dancing in Central City (CO)

On Friday, my dance partner and friend Michael asked me to go up to Central City, Colorado with him to dance and see him sing. He was going to sing a song with the Atomic Drifters. For those of you attending VLV 15, the Atomic Drifter will play the Bienville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2012.

Central City is about a 30 to 40 minute drive outside of Denver. It’s a historic mining settlement founded in 1859 during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush and at one time was referred to as the “Richest Square Mile on Earth”. Today Central City is packed with casinos. After six years in Denver, I had never actually stopped to check out the casinos or the town.

Now back to my story. We arrived at the casino and, as expected, stuck out like sore thumbs in our vintage attire. Luckily, my most esteemed friends Z & R were also at the casino. They are magical together on the dance floor. I remember when I was just beginning to dance, I would watch them and wish I could be an ounce as graceful and entertaining.

The band went on at 9:00 p.m. and we danced nearly every song until a little after midnight. Man was I worn out by the end of the evening. I didn’t mention it but Central City sits at 8,510 feet above sea level. Denver is of course at 5,280 but that additional 3,230 feet really will do you in! I can’t wait to see what it is like to dance Las Vegas elevation (2,030 feet).

Michael sang "La Bamba" with the band. He was truly the incarnation of Ritchie Valens. The band even gave him an encore performance as it was so well received the first time.

Did anyone else dance this weekend?

Viva Las Vegas 15 Preparation (Part 3)

So in my first VLV preparation post I showed you a sketch of a dress I am having made. Here it is again:

There are various reasons I am having a dress custom made.

-          I want something unique.
-          I didn’t fall madly in love with anything I have found.
-          The real root of my problem: I am a 40-29.5-40.

Having an hourglass figure is amazing and I feel blessed, at least until I start shopping for vintage wiggle dresses. I find myself wishing to be one of the many beautiful, less endowed, petite girls. Maybe it’s because there are less of these women and therefore far more choices or conversely more of this body type and still more choices.

Regardless, I decided to have a dress made for my shape. It isn’t completed yet but my fabulous seamstress sent me a preview photo today. How lucky am I! Look at that wing bust!

Dancing!

Tonight I went to do a little dancing with a few good friends who happen to be great dancers.  The ever so fabulous Natalie, Mo, Amanda, and Tyler.

We went to the Skylark (Denver) and saw the Danny B. Harvey Rockabilly Trio on Friday night. You may recognize Mr. Harvey from The Head Cat where he played with vocalist Lemmy of Motorhead and Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats.

I decided to wear my favorite dungarees from NKD, a pink forty-esque top (the is not nearly as bright as it appears in this photo), and my heart on fire necklace that my boyfriend teases me about (he calls it my faux chest piece). My hair was styled in three victory rolls, long circles in the back, and a beautiful flower from Steve Roca aka Uncle Fezter.

The ladies all ready to dance the night away. You should see Natalie and Amanda in the VLV 15 Jive Contest.

The aforementioned, Tyler and Amanda. Tyler happens to have won the Jive contest at VLV 13. He is amazing and so is Amanda. Sadly photos don't really capture how good those two truly are.

You can see Tyler dancing, and subsequently winning VLV 13, here:

Two last photos with my lovely ladies just because.

Hope evyerone is enjoying their weekends so far!
