Viva Las Vegas 18 - Saturday

Saturday is a big day all around at Viva Las Vegas. The car show is in full swing, the headlining performers are playing, and everyone is wearing their absolute best outfits. People plan for months what they are going to be wearing on Saturday. I am not immune to the typical circumstances of VLV and I brought my A-game on Saturday.

For the car show, I wore my hand painted spider blousehigh waisted shorts in black sateen from Pinup Girl Clothing, black wedges, a scarf that I tied into a turban and affixed a gold spider web brooch, vintage red vampira sunglasses, and a black lucite purse (a gift from the boyfriend).

The car show was as warm as always (read sweltering hot) with great vendors and a few great performances. My two favorites were definitely Kitty Daisy & Lewis and The Sonics.

I ran into a bunch of friends before heading up to have my hair done one last time by Technicolor Cutie and to a Tiki themed room party.

Shortly after coming back down to the car show it got extremely windy, so my friends and I packed up and went back to the condo to get ready for the evening.

When I got back to the room, one of my very best girlfriends had arrived to Viva and we could finally catch up after being apart for a year. We drank, we giggled, and we took pictures together while we were only half put together.

The fabulous Ruby Champagne

We finished getting ready and got to the ballroom to see the stars of Rockabilly.

I swear that this is how it goes every time the three of us try to take a photo together.

My finally Saturday night outfit was another handpainted blouse with matching clutch. This one was a recreation of a 1940's drunk elephant blouse I remembered from Etsy that had sold over two years ago.

The Saturday night record hop was by far the most packed but also the most enjoyable. As the night wears on, things get a little ridiculous and the photos, well, they become more blurry. A lot of that is honestly just attributed to the amount of laughter and shenanigans and part of it is because we sneak in flasks.

Let's go already!

My drunk elephants insisted on being in every photo

How I feel about dancing... every single time.

I finished off the Saturday night with my Sunday breakfast yogurt.

See you on Sunday afternoon.

Viva Las Vegas 18 - Friday

I'm not going to lie to you, getting out of the bed on Friday "morning" was tough. There were not a lot of morning or early afternoon events that I planned to attend so I took the opportunity to sleep in and make a big breakfast for everyone. I strolled into the Orleans just in time to have Technicolor Cutie do my hair and head up to catch some early evening music.

My early outfit was a gorgeous fan novelty print dress purchased for me by my boyfriend, an armful of Bakelite, and tooled leather accessories. How good does my hair look?! Technicolor Cutie does such a great job.

Around 9 pm, it was time for an outfit change and a rush to the Ballroom to see Jackie Wilson's son Bobby Brooks Wilson. I decided to wear a gorgeous aqua color Lurex dress that I got from Lola Devlin with Betsey Johnson shoes and a silver lame purse.

Bobby puts on a real show and was my favorite performer of the weekend. He is charismatic and harkens back to the days when you had to be able to really sing and perform.

I spent the rest of the evening running back and forth between the Beinville Room and the Ballroom to see friends or catch certain shows.

The three of us can never seem to get it together.

I changed one more time to head to the record hop. Sadly, I stayed only a few minutes that evening because I had quite literally worn everyone out the two preceding nights.

My last outfit of the evening was a insane blue Lurex top that was a Christmas gift from Lola Devlin, black capri pants from Pinup Girl Clothing, and black flats.

Before calling it a night I ran into two of my absolutely favorite people, Technicolor Cutie and Chelsea in the food court.

We'll end with a little funny reel of pictures. I didn't realize, initially, that my girlfriend was still taking photos. Once we realized it the photos definitely got a little weird and a little funny.

I'll see you on Saturday!

Viva Las Vegas 18 - Thursday

Let's continue our VLV 18 story from Pre-Viva Las Vegas 18.

By Thursday, all of my friends who were attending this year had arrived to Las Vegas and we had planned to meet at Sweetpea's Hooch and Smooch for our first official get together of the weekender.

Last summer, my girlfriends, Wink and Bridget, and I decided to make felt circle skirts with lobsters on them for the Hooch and Smooch using Technicolor Cutie's tutorial. I was pretty excited to unveil my little masterpiece.

I hadn't even told Technicolor Cutie that I was going to wear the skirt. She was very pleased with my creation as well as the other ladies.

I made a little lobster pocket for my skirt.

Trying to get all the ladies together for a picture can be quite the task.

We are having some kind of intense conversation... that was probably me telling a funny anecdote.

All of the lobster skirts together for the first time

After the Hooch and Smooch, I ran off to Technicolor Cutie's hotel room to have her do my hair. I had decided two things for VLV 18:

  1. I was not going to do my hair this year because I was feeling far too lazy.
  2. I was going to wear Lurex every single day.

I had selected four similar but slightly different styles for the weekend for Technicolor Cutie. Let me be the first to say that some styles mean you will look like this in the middle of styling.

That's okay, just be sweet and gentle to your curls and it will come together looking like this!

You can't really see it but I am wearing a hairnet because I love to dance into the wee hours of the night; say 4:30 a.m. or later. If you dance as hard as I do, you know that you get sweaty and your hair falls. The hairnet stopped my hair from falling all weekend.

After I got my hair done, it was time to don my first Lurex dress of the weekend. A fantastic black and white striped dress with silver throughout. I paired it with some spider web shoes, a gift from Wink, and vintage rhinestone jewelry.

I love VLV because you get to see friends from all over the world that you haven't seen since the last VLV. This year was extra special because I got to meet so many of my Instagram followers that I have come to adore.

What would VLV be without the Gene Kelly of jive, Mr. Tyler Byrd?

Around 1 a.m., it was off to the room to change clothing for the record hop.

Waiting for my turn to change

I changed into some capri, a Lurex shirt, and some flats for dancing.

On the way to the record hop I ran into one of my favorite dancers, Graham. This video is from a few years ago and doesn't quite showcase how good he really is but nevertheless here it is.

Graham (from the U.K.) has a fabulous sense of fashion.

We stayed at the record hop, the least packed of the weekender, until about 5:00 a.m. My poor feet were covered in blisters by the end of the evening (totally worth it).

I'll see you on Friday.
